President appoints new governors for three provinces in question

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday appointed three new governors for the Wayamba, Northern and Eastern Provinces, the President’s Media Division said.   

Accordingly, former MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena was appointed as the Governor of the Wayamba Province, P.M.S. Charles as the Governor of the Northern Province and Senthil Thondaman as the Governor of the Eastern Province.  The trio were sworn in before the President at the President’s office last morning.   
The respective governors’ posts have been vacant following President Wickremesinghe’s decision to remove the former governors namely Jeewan Thiyagarajah, Anuradha Yahampath and Wasantha Karannagoda.
