Prez proposes District Development Councils In place of Provincial Councils

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday said he is ready to reintroduce District Development councils in place of Provincial Councils.  

President said this in Parliament when Former President Maithripala Sirisena proposed setting up of district council.  

“Former President, I listened to your comments on District Development Councils and I am ready to do it,” the President said.  

“This is good and we in SLFP will fully support it,” MP Sirisena responded.  

“It will be possible to establish and run District Development Councils without a cost as all MPs in districts, representatives of local bodies could be included in them without separate elected members,” he added.
