Princess Anne, sister of Britain’s King Charles, and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence will arrive in Sri Lanka today for a three-day visit to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Sri Lanka.
Issuing a statement, the British High Commission in Colombo yesterday said that while in Colombo, The Princess Royal will meet with President Ranil Wickremesinghe. She will meet with businesses and charities; visit Save the Children Sri Lanka Programme; and a Commonwealth War Grave under her new role as President of Commonwealth War Graves.
The Princess Royal will also visit sites of religious significance in Kandy and Colombo, and meet local communities and civil society representatives while in Jaffna.
The Princess Royal previously visited Sri Lanka in March 1995 as patron of Save the Children, to learn more about projects supported by the charity.
This trip will be the Royal family’s first overseas tour of 2024.
Britain’s Daily Mail earlier reported that Princess Anne, 73, has been dubbed the King’s ‘right-hand woman’ thanks to her support for her brother, and her reputation as one of the most hard-working royals in Charles’s ‘slimmed-down’ monarchy.
