Investigations are being conducted on the incident of police attempting to electrocute a group of school children in Hungamuwa after a wallet belonging to a teacher went missing, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday.   Minister Premajayantha said investigations are being carried out by the Child Protection authority and the Ministry of Education. “A circular has been issued on how to deal with school children when they commit an offence.

We don’t know whether the authorities of this school have violated the circular. We can arrive at a conclusion only when the investigation reports come and I will inform Parliament when the results come,” the Minister said.
Earlier MPs Kavinda Jayawardene and Jagath Kumara informed the House that a group of school children have been subjected to harassment by the police. “The children have been electrocuted by the police and few of them have been admitted to hospital,” MP Jagath Kumara said.

“These children have publicly stated that they were subjected to various harassments by the police,” Dr. Jayawardene said.
