Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the QR code system introduced under the National Fuel Pass portal would be cancelled in three to four months and the country would be able to provide fuel continuously under normal conditions.
Speaking on a TV programme, Kanchana emphasized that the QR code was introduced as a temporary solution for fuel management.
He mentioned that the fuel price would not increase.
“According to the international fuel price, the local fuel price may rise by Rs. 10 or Rs. 15, but I do not know what will happen if a similar situation occurs as in Ukraine or if the international fuel price rises at a faster rate,” Minister Wijesekera said.
With the removal of the QR code, the ministry said it had invited international suppliers under the reorganization process to arrive in the country.
“We only have the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Lanka IOC (LIOC) as the main fuel suppliers in the country,” Kanchana said.
Finally, he mentioned that the ministry is going to reorganize the system.
