RW to make special statement on committees he appointed to probe Easter Sunday attacks

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is to make a special statement today on the two committees he appointed to probe the Easter Sunday attacks.   

Sources close to Mr. Wickremesinghe said he has decided to come up with a statement following the revelations made by former Minister Udaya Gammanpila on Monday. 

Mr. Gammanpila said two officers, Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne whom the incumbent President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed to start a fresh probe on the Easter Sunday attacks have been held responsible for ignoring prior warnings on Easter Sunday attacks. Mr. Gammanpila who revealed the findings of the committee appointed by Mr. Wickremesinghe to look into the action taken by the intelligence units on the warnings given on Easter Sunday attacks have held Mr. Abeysekara and Mr. Seneviratne responsible for neglecting prior warnings together with few other officers.   

The former President is also expected to comment on the report of the other committee he appointed to probe on the information revealed by the Channel 4 documentary on Easter Sunday attacks.   

Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith also questioned the genuineness of the two committees appointed by Mr. Wickremesinghe.
