Ranil to make a special statement on Thursday

• He will continue to lead UNP and provides leadership to the alliance New Democratic Front

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is to make a special statement on Thursday October 17.   

Sources close to Mr. Wickremeisnghe said he would speak about the present political situation and reveal some future plans.   Former President has already decided not to contest the General Election and not to enter into Parliament through the national list. It was reported that this decision was made by him in line with the policy of United National Party (UNP) that no party member should engage in parliamentary politics after becoming the Executive President. However he will continue to lead UNP and provides leadership to the alliance New Democratic Front which is contesting the General Election under the gas cylinder symbol.   

However sources ruled out a political retirement.
