Reducing traffic congestion in WP Police launch month-long special programme

  • This programme would be held from March 01 to 31st., covering all Police areas in the Western Province
  • Certain offences will be given priority and awareness activities will also be carried out

Arrangements have been made to conduct a month-long awareness programme for drivers, passengers and pedestrians to reduce the traffic congestion in the Western Province, the Police announced.   


Police said this programme would be held from March 01 to 31st., covering all Police areas in the Western Province.  

During the programme, certain offences will be given priority and awareness activities will also be carried out.  


Police said the programme had been launched under the instructions and guidance of the DIG in charge of the Western Province Traffic Division.  


Accordingly, driving without a driving license, driving under the age of 18, driving without revenue licenses, or insurance certificates, violation of traffic rules, faults related to roundabouts and at pedestrian crossings, driving in lanes, violation of traffic signals, faults made at bus stops, parking of vehicles in prohibited areas and riding motorcycles without safety helmets will be strictly monitored during the programme.
