Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Rajamaha Vihara Ven. Walawahengunawewe Dhammarathana Thera requested the people to refrain from casting their vote at the upcoming Local Government election and to cancel the ballot paper instead.

Delivering an Anusasana at a meeting to distribute packages of nutritional food among expectant mothers in the Mihintale division, he pointed out that politicians of successive governments had failed to resolve the issues affecting the people and that a large percentage of the population including expectant mothers and infants were suffering from malnutrition.

“The children living today are not aware of the individuals who destroyed the country. The people living in the rice producing area of Rajarata are today in hunger. On February 4, we would celebrate the 75th anniversary of independence as one of the poorest country’s in the world. More than 30,000 government servants retired last year and thousands more are scheduled to retire by next April. However the vacancies are not filled. A secret ploy is being hatched to cripple the public service and to privatize them. Politicians are now preparing for the election, they would come out with promises to bind the people, but the people should understand their fault for the last 75 years and that they should not repeat it at this crucial juncture,” the Ven Thera further said.
