SJB is a party of ordinary people: Hirunika

• Says there are some people in SJB who are class conscious

There are those from my own party who oppose me for criticizing President Ranil Wickremesinghe, former MP and Head of Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya Hirunika Premachandra said yesterday. 

Ms. Premachandra said these persons within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) who criticize her are the ones who are class-conscious. “There are some people in SJB who are class conscious and go after the people who represent the high society,” she said.

“SJB is not like UNP which is dominated by high-class people. Our party is a party of ordinary people. Our party leader does not endorse class consciousness within the party but yet there are ones who go behind those from the highest social strata,” she added.

“I criticize President Wickremesinghe as he is like a drunkard father who allows his associates to make advances on his wife and allow them to destroy his own family,” she also said. The head of SJB women’s wing questioned how SLPP and UNP could work together in an alliance as the two parties are poles apart. “SLPP- UNP alliance will not work,” Ms. Premachandra said in this regard.
