SJB vows to file Fundamental Rights petition against Tiran Alles

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) would file a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition against Public Security Minister Tiran Alles who ordered to fire tear gas and water cannon at the SJB protest and the police officers who acted unlawfully, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said yesterday.  

He told a news conference that tear gas and water cannons were fired at the SJB protest unlawfully despite the court order.  

The MP said the government was attempting to suppress public protests using armed forces and said they urge public officials to act lawfully adding that they would have to face legal action if they acted unlawfully.  “We tell Ranil and Tiran that people can’t be chased away just like they did in the Aragalaya,” he said.
