Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said Sri Lanka will soon re-acquire the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm.  He said discussions with the Indian High Commissioner to procure the tanks were successfully concluded last Sunday.

“After World War II, these tanks were abandoned without being used. In 2003, the tanks were leased to the Indian Oil Company. But we are happy to say that Sri Lanka will soon have those tanks back,” he said while addressing a function in Kolonnawa.

“I would like to thank the Indian High Commissioner for being flexible to the terms in the 2017 agreement and having agreed to return the tanks to Sri Lanka. These tanks will have the capacity to offer bunkering facilities to the ships sailing in close proximity to Trincomalee. Hence, we solicit India’s support on this, “ Minister Gammanpila said.
