SLBFE staff surround GM’s office demanding bonus

Staff members of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) today surrounded the office of the General Manager for not paying their annual bonus, as the company over-profited during the past year.  

The SLBFE staff had shown displeasure over the failure to provide the annual bonus and pointed out that, even though the SLBFE had not paid a bonus, several loss-making state institutions had made bonus payments.  

While explaining the situation Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said the bonus was not given according to the policy decision taken by the government not to pay bonuses due to the financial crisis in the country.  

However, the SLBFE had achieved its targets by sending people abroad for employment. The Minister claimed that he would discuss the matter with the Finance Ministry and grant them their bonus payments.
