Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday pledged to introduce a new governing system with effective separation of power among the three pillars of governance.

Speaking to artistes, civil organizations and professionals, Premadasa said an SJB led government will not allow pillars of governance. “What we have today is a system which is in disarray as one pillar of governance is trying to overcome another pillar. The Country’s constitution is subjected to genocide by whole sale violation of it,” he said.  “We will also add value to the governing system,” he added.   “We believe in forming a government with a people’s mandate. “ I would have become the Prime Minister during the constitutional crisis in 2018 and also during the crisis in 2022. I would have even become the President in 2022. However I did not make use of these opportunities as I did not want to work against my policies,” he said.
He also said the SJB is a party which does not believe in capitalism or in socialism and its policy on debt restructuring will be based on this principle. “ This is why we were against putting the burden on the working class when restructuring domestic debt,” he said.
