A revision application filed by State Minister Sanath Nishantha challenging Chilaw High Court’s decision to reject a request made by him that the travel ban imposed on him be lifted was yesterday rejected by the Court of Appeal. Sanath Nishantha and his brother have been indicted in the High Court for allegedly assaulting former Arachchikattuwa Divisional Secretary, obstructing his official duties, using criminal force and being members of an unlawful assembly in 2008. The Chilaw High Court had rejected the State Minister’s request since the case against him before the High Court had come to a virtual end.
The Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justice Sampath B. Abayakoon and Justice P. Kumararatnam observed that they do not find any basis to consider that any exceptional circumstances exist for the petitioner to succeed in the revision application and his revision application was rejected accordingly.
