Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery operations to resume from Friday

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced that the operations of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will resume from Friday (16) after receiving another 90,000 MT of crude oil for refining activities at the refinery.  

They said all arrangements are in place to resume operations at the refinery. 

The ship that freighted crude oil docked at the port and unloading formalities have already begun, and another tanker freighting 90,000 MT of crude oil is expected to reach the country in due course. With these consignments, operations at the refinery will continue smoothly.  

According to the CPC, they intend to run the fuel refining operations at full capacity, producing 1,600 metric tons of diesel, 550 metric tons of gasoline, 950 metric tons of kerosene and jet fuel, 1450 metric tons of furnace oil, and 450 metric tons of naptha for the domestic market.  

They said that the country would get more foreign exchange by refining and distributing high-quality jet fuel and selling to the airline industry. 
The CPC would be able to maintain a continuous supply of fuel oil and naptha to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to ensure an uninterrupted power supply. The CPC is also expecting to supply kerosene for low-income families and the fishing industry.  

The CPC also said 25% of the local fuel requirement is supplied by them, and they would be able to supply high-quality fuel varieties such as diesel, petrol, kerosene, and jet fuel to the local market.
