In response to the proposed appointment of a committee to probe the scam involving the import of a fertilizer stock from China, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella queried in Parliament as to why investigations are not handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) instead of a committee headed by a retired judge.

He said investigations by such a committee is an attempt to sweep everything under the carpet. He expressed that investigations had been dragged on for a long time with no finding in sight.
