School girl abducted, hidden in underground bunker

The Buttala Police arrested three suspects involved in the kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl, who was held in an underground bunker. 

The girl was abducted from her room on June 9 by a group in Katugahagalge in the Buttala Police area. 

Among the three suspects arrested was an 18-year-old who claimed to be her boyfriend. 

The girl was found hidden in an underground bunker in his house. 

The girl was admitted to the Monaragala District General Hospital for a medical examination.   The police also seized a motorcycle used by the suspects.  

The main suspect is a resident of Weegabadawa Road, Buttala. The other suspects include an 18-year-old from Polwatthegedara, Weegaradapara, and a 51-year-old from Ratnasirigedara, Buttalapara, Moneragala.  

The three suspects were produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court and remanded until June 19.  
A team of officers including Buttala Police Station Officer W.M.J. Bandara, conducted the raid.
