A school Principal and two policemen arrested for allegedly torturing several Grade Five students at Millaniya Primary School in Horana were yesterday ordered to be remanded till November 16 after being produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The National Child Protection Authority arrested the suspects for subjecting nine students to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment over an incident relating to stealing money belonging to a school teacher.

However, Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera ordered to release Deputy Principal in the same school and another Police Constable (driver of a police jeep) on bail after taking into consideration the lack of evidence against them.

The National Child Protection Authority informed court that the suspects were arrested for causing injuries to the students by severely caning at the school library and electric shock treatment inside the Police Jeep.
