Schoolboy arrested for rape

A 14-year-old schoolboy was taken into custody by Mahiyangana Police on suspicion of rape of a 12-year-old schoolgirl.   

The suspect was a grade nine student of a school in Orubendiwewa area and the girl was a grade seven student of the school.   

Police said the suspect living in the adjacent house had raped the girl at times when she was all alone in her house.   

The girl was admitted to Mahiyangana Hospital for a medical examination.   

Mahiyangana Police are conducting further investigations.
