Schoolboy trampled to death by wild elephant

• The villagers were attempting to drive away the herd when one of the jumbos gave chase and attacked the schoolboy

A schoolboy had been trampled to death by a wild elephant in a herd that roamed into Kudawewa area at Thirappane in Thalawa.   The victim Vishmika Wanninayaka (15) was a student of Navodya Vidyalaya in Thalawa.   

Investigations revealed that the villagers were attempting to drive away the herd when one of the jumbos gave chase and attacked the schoolboy who was walking along the road.   

The injured boy was rushed to Thalawa Divisional Hospital and transferred in a critical condition to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.   

Thalawa police are conducting investigations.
