As the prevailing showery condition in the southwestern part of the island is likely to continue further due to active southwest monsoon conditions over the island, a total of 25,863 people from 6,250 families belonging to ten districts have been affected, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

According to the situation report issued, 453 houses were damaged partially, and two houses were damaged completely.

Many people in Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kalutara, Gampaha, Matara, Galle, Nuwara-Eliya, Puttalam, Kurunegala, and Jaffna districts have been affected due to heavy rain, floods, fallen trees, cutting failure, and high winds.

124 people from 31 families were taken to three safe locations in the Gampaha district, but no deaths or injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an advisory for heavy rain above 100 mm in the Southern Province and in Kalutara and Ratnapura Districts.
