Skeletal remains in a possible mass grave found in Kokkutoduwai

Forensic Medical Experts and archaeologists continuing excavations in what security forces believe to be a mass grave at Kokkutoduwai in Mullaitivu had on Saturday recovered complete skeletal remains of two bodies.   


JMO Mullaitivu  Hospital Kanagasabhapathi Vasudeva said fragmented skeletal remains of another three bodies had also been recovered on Thursday (07). He said the fragments of decayed uniforms similar to those of the security forces, a worn out badge bearing the number of a LTTE cadre used by the LTTE during military conflicts, fragments of a weapon and cartridges were among those recovered.   


Officers carrying out excavations said the skeletal remains could have been those of women. Meanwhile the security forces believe that the site was a mass grave.   
Senior Archaeologist Prof. Raj Somadeva, JMO  Mullaitivu General Hospital Dr. Kanagasabhapathi Vasudeva, JMO Jaffna General Hospital Dr S.Anavan, Archaeological Officers, a group of students of the Jaffna University, the STF and the police are carrying out excavations under the supervision of Mullaitivu Magistrate Dharmalingam Pradeepan.
