Actress Piyumi Hansamali emphasized yesterday that Mahinda Rajapaksa is neither her father nor is Gotabaya Rajapaksa her ‘Bappa’. She also clarified that she bears no responsibility for Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s earlier use of the vehicle, as she purchased it from a car dealership.

Speaking to reporters upon arriving at the CID’s Illegal Assets Investigations Division in Narahenpita, she expressed that the purchase of a Range Rover vehicle and a house in Colombo-7 had been blown out of proportion across Sri Lanka. She accused individuals, particularly those in the beauty cream industry, of making such allegations with ulterior motives.

Hansamali claimed that the complaint against her regarding the Range Rover purchase was driven by personal vendetta against the Rajapaksa’s and she became ensnared in the fallout. She condemned the act of falsely accusing an innocent businessperson and suggested that the gods would punish the accuser.

She said one pack of beauty products marketed by her costs Rs.35,000 and she had sold as many as 25,000 packs. She also stated that she had brought receipts of the transactions in five bags as evidence. She urged the public to consider these facts before coming to a conclusion. Ours is a vicious society, People are envious when seeing someone using a luxury vehicle,’ she said.

She stressed that all her business transactions were conducted through banks, demonstrating foresight to preempt potential legal issues.
