Four provinces of Sri Lanka will continue to be battered by rain as heavy showers of 150 millimetres within the next couple of days leading to disasters such as floods because a low pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal is heading for depression, an official said.

A top official of the Meteorological Department said that it is likely to develop into a depression triggering continuous rainfall in the Northern, North-Central, Uva and Eastern Provinces.

The official said such heavy rainfall could result in disasters even creating uncertainty over the conduct of the Advanced Level examination in these areas.  Floods have already been reported in Mannar and Jaffna. Over 13,000 people have been affected with rain related disasters.
