A cabinet paper is to be submitted to appoint more officers to Sri Lankan missions abroad to arrest the shortage of officers in these missions, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Labour Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament yesterday.

The Minister came out with this information when Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP J. C. Alawathugoda raised the issue in the House.

“There is no one even to answer a phone call in Sri Lankans missions abroad as many of them have been ordered to return with the decision to reduce the workforce of Sri Lankan foreign missions. Therefore we request the government to reverse its decision to reduce the workforce in Sri Lankan missions overseas,” he said.
Some of those who have been engaged in trafficking Sri Lankan women from Dubai to Oman have been arrested and operations are on to apprehend others who are involved in it, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament yesterday.
