In a surprising turn of events, State Minister Diana Gamage has announced her potential venture into the world of Indian cinema while affirming her commitment to her political career. Responding to media reports, Minister Gamage acknowledged the possibility of taking on a role in an upcoming Indian movie, shedding light on her intent to continue her political journey concurrently.
Ms.Gamage was recently at the centre of controversy after she was suspended from Parliament over her involvement in an altercation with two MPs from the opposition in the parliamentary complex.
The media reported that Ms. Gamage is set to portray the character of a Buddhist nun in a film that explores the theme of Indo-Lanka relations. This move aligns her with a precedent set by some of her Sri Lankan political counterparts, including Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, MPs Sujeewa Serasinghe, and the late Reginald Coorey, who have previously ventured into the entertainment industry alongside their political responsibilities.
Former President Rajapaksa notably participated in the teledrama “Udagira” shortly after his election to Parliament in 1995. Similarly, MP Sujeewa Serasinghe took on a role in the film “Yahaluwo,” showcasing a trend of politicians engaging in diverse forms of expression.
