State expenditure for the year 2025 has approximately increased up to Rs 4.2 trillion compared to Rs 3.8 trillion allocated for 2024, as per the Appropriation Bill for this year which was presented to Parliament yesterday.
Accordingly the defence budget, education budget, agriculture and health budgets are increased as per the Bill this year. The amount allocated for defence expenditure in 2025 has been increased to Rs 442 billion compared to Rs 423.7 trillion in 2024 while the amount allocated for health has been increased to Rs 508.4 billion compared to Rs 410.2 billion in 2024.
Amount allocated for agriculture has been drastically increased to Rs 208.7 billion compared to Rs 100.4 billion in 2024.
The amount allocated for the Prime Minister has been fractionally increased to Rs Rs 1.17 billion compared to Rs 1.15 billion in 2025.
The amount allocated to the President has been reduced to Rs 2.9 billion from Rs7.6 billion in 2024 while the amount allocated for Ministry of Power and Energy has been reduced to Rs 21 billion compared to Rs 42,991, 000,000 in 2024. The capital expenditure allocated for the power and energy sector is going to be higher than the recurrent expenditure as it has been in 2024. The Capital expenditure allocated for 2025 is Rs 20 billion compared to Rs 42,073,000,000 in 2024.
The second reading of the Appropriation Bill (budget) is to take place next month.
