Stock of ammunition seized, two suspects arrested

A consignment of ammunition smuggled from India was seized  in transit and two suspects were arrested by Mannar Police on Thursday night  (9) during a raid in Pallimunai in Mannar.  

It included 158 rods of gelignite, 200 electric detonators  and 160 ft of server cords. The lorry transporting the stock of  contraband hidden under a stock of fish was seized during the raid.  Investigations revealed that the suspects were transporting it to  Narammala in the Kurunegala area, but the purpose for which it was to be  used had not been revealed by the suspects.  


The two suspects 35 and 54 years of age were residents  of Narammala area, and they were to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate  yesterday.  


A police team under OIC Mannar Division Crime Investigation  Unit SI Jayawardene and Sergeant 36501 Ratnamalala had carried out the  raid.
