Suspect dies after collapsing in Chilaw Police custody

A suspect who collapsed unconscious in the Chilaw Police cell was pronounced dead after admission to hospital on Thursday night.

The victim Udesh Sanjeewa (42) was a resident of Jayabima in Chilaw

He had been taken into custody on suspicion of trespass of a land with several others. 

Police said the suspect who collapsed in the police cell was rushed in critical condition to the Chilaw Hospital.
The JMO Chilaw Hospital was to perform the postmortem examination yesterday.

Chilaw Police are conducting further investigations.
