Suspect harassing child arrested

  • On intelligence received, the police raided the suspects’ hideout in Pulmudai last morning

The main suspect known as “ Kukul Chaminda” who was wanted in connection with the alleged abuse of a four year old child of Kalyanapura in Sampathnuwara in Welioya police area and two women who aided and abetted it were arrested in the early hours of last morning during a raid on their hideout at Arasimalai in Pulmudai.   

A video of the child being assaulted by the main suspect while having meals had gone viral on social media drawing the attention of the Welioya police to initiate investigations. Although the police raided the house to arrest the suspect they found him missing with the child.   

However, on intelligence received, the police raided the suspects’ hideout in Pulmudai last morning with the help of the STF and the Mullaitivu Division Crime Investigation Unit and arrested the suspects including the main suspect’s wife and another woman who is alleged to be his mistress .   

Police said they took charge of the victim, the four year old child, who was in perfect health was refereed to the JMO Mullaitivu general hospital yesterday afternoon under the care of the Women and Children’s Bureau of the  Welioya police .   

The suspects were being questioned by a team of officers under OIC Welioya police CI Lakmal Embulgama.
