Spanning approximately 53 to 85 kilometres in width, this narrow stretch of sea serves as a vital maritime passage connecting the Bay of Bengal with the Gulf of Mannar.

However, beneath its tranquil surface lies a myriad of complexities that pose considerable obstacles to swimmers daring to traverse its waters.

The primary challenges inherent to the Palk Strait include unpredictable currents, strong tidal flows, and variable weather conditions. The Strait’s strategic location exposes it to the influence of monsoons and cyclones, resulting in choppy seas and turbulent waters.

Additionally, the presence of marine life, including sharks and jellyfish, adds another layer of danger to the already demanding swim. Navigating these treacherous conditions requires not only physical strength and endurance but also mental fortitude and strategic planning.
