Media Spokesman for Tamil National Alliance(TNA) Jaffna  District MP M.A.Sumanthiran said they would consider the possibility of  supporting the candidate who would accept the policy of devolution of  powers, which was the major demand of the Tamil community in the Northern  and Eastern Provinces.

Mr. Sumanthiran told the media on Sunday after the  central committee meeting in Vavuniya that several Tamil political  parties had decided to put forward a common candidate, but the Ilankai  Tamil Arasu Kachchi which is the major political party of the Tamil  community insists on the devolution of powers.

“We would inform it to all candidates contesting the  Presidential Election and await their response. This issue has already  been taken up with the three main candidates. We are prepared to support  the candidate who gives an assurance to implement the devolution of  powers to the North and the East. We are awaiting clarification regarding the common candidate Ariyanentran within a week,” he said.
