Tennakoon aims to modernize crime-solving methods in Sri Lanka

Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon said yesterday that he hopes to adapt methods used by the world’s most advanced countries to solve crimes for the Sri Lanka Police.  IGP Tennakoon said that he expects to make extensive changes in the police department in the next short period of time.  


Addressing an event held at the Colombo Record Division (CRD) to award certificates to officers who passed the Advance Grade and Elementary examinations held in Fingerprint Science of the Criminal Records Division, the IGP said that he will be assuming a new task from tomorrow after serving more than 4 years as the Senior DIG. 

 
He said the CRD’s contribution to operations launched recently to crackdown on crimes and the elimination of drugs is excellent.  


Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was appointed as Acting IGP on November 29 last year, was appointed as the 36th IGP in Sri Lanka Police by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Tennakoon will officially assume duties in the post from February 29.  
“My vision is that we want to make a big change in the future by expanding and adapting the Sri Lanka Police to methods used by the most advanced countries in the world to solve crimes. I worked as a senior DIG for more than 4 years ,” he said.  
Reflecting on his tenure as Senior DIG, he acknowledged the collaborative efforts of officers in combating crime in high-risk areas such as the Western Province.  
Senior DIG Crime and Traffic Priyantha Weerasuriya, Senior DIG Asanka Karavita, and Crime DIG Nihal Thalduwa also attended the ceremony.
