Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s (CPC) Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) Secretary Ananda Palitha was yesterday ordered to be released from a case filed against him for allegedly making a statement about fuel shortage.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe made this order following the Attorney General’s advice not to proceed with the case owing to insufficient evidence against the trade union activist.

On or around August 2021, Ananda Palitha had told the media that the stock of diesel in hand would suffice only for 11 days, while petrol would be sufficient for 10 days. The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation lodged a complaint with the CID claiming that his statement was false and would incite the public over such a statement.
