Trishaw hits ‘Rajarata Rajina express’ at level crossing in Unawatuna

Russian woman and trishaw driver dead on the spot

A trishaw transporting a Russian woman hit the Anuradhapura bound Rajarata Rajina Express at Maharamba level crossing in Unawatuna on the southern railway last morning, causing the death of the woman and the trishaw driver on the spot.  

Police said the Russian woman, resident in Sri Lanka was on her way back after leaving her child at the daycare center, when she met with the accident.  
The 42-year-old trishaw driver was a resident of Wakwella area.  

Investigations revealed that the colour signals at the level crossing had not been functioning.
