The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is to conduct a feasibility study with a view of revisiting the project undertaken by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to relocate the President’s House to Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, an official said.   UDA Director General Prasad Ranaweera told Daily Mirror that a feasibility study will be done shortly to relocate the President’s House or Janadipathi Mandiraya to a place near the Parliamentary complex in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.

“We will be conducting a feasibility study on relocating Janadipathi Mandiraya at Sandun Uyana near Parliamentary complex with a view of revisiting the project undertaken during the tenure of former President Chandrika Kumaratunga way back in 1996. We will see whether it is possible to implement the project once again,” he said.

The project was initiated during the tenure of Ms. Kumaratunga in 1999 and the work actually began in 2000. Also Late President J. R. Jayewardene initiated a master plan to relocate all administrative offices to Jayewardenepura and to convert Colombo into a complete commercial capital.
