UGC in talks with lecturers Efforts underway to resolve paper-marking issue

Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga said that efforts are underway to resolve issues concerning Advanced Level students who are awaiting results for university entrance. 
The Senior Professor was commenting on the delay caused by lecturers and teachers withdrawing from examination paper evaluation duties due to trade union action. 

 
“We have been in talks with lecturers. This is a national problem affecting the future of our students. At least six demands of the trade unions have been addressed during the talks with the government,” Amaratunga said, adding that he is hopeful that the issue will be resolved promptly.
