University Teachers’ Congress stage protest against taxes

• Says teachers are facing hardship due to prevailing economic constraints

 University Teachers’ Congress yesterday staged a protest in  Peradeniya against the levy of taxes from their salary. They severely  criticized the government for taxing the university teachers who were  already facing hardship due to the prevailing economic constraints. They  marched from Peradeniya University to Galaha Junction, where  they staged the protest. They staged a token strike as well.

  
 Further they warned that they would resort to stern trade union action unless the government withdrew the unjust tax scheme.
