An unusual noise  emanating from the ground at the Wethelewa playground in Hedunuwewa and all underground water resources running dry has created a fear psychosis among the public. They said they spent sleepless nights for four days in fear of any possible danger.

Meanwhile District Secretary Nandana Galaboda yesterday convened a media conference to create awareness in this regard. He told the media that steps were being taken to carrying out immediate research in the area to find the cause of this abnormal noise in the ground followed by water resources running dry.

However, he said the Building Research Organisation that carried out an inspection of the affected area reported that the people should not entertain any fears of a disastrous situation. He said the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau will carry out further inspections.

Kotmale Divisional Secretary Nadeera Lakmal said the playground had been constructed by filling an old lake in 2013 and that he visited the area with Pundaluoya Police, the Engineers in Charge of the Kotmale Dam and the officials of the Building Research Organisation and carried out an inspection. He said the people were not satisfied with it and that on the instructions of the District Secretary he had informed the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau to carry out a further inspection.
