Veteran business personality Thilak Godamanna bids adieu

Founder member and past President of National Chamber of  Commerce of Sri Lanka and Chairman of Ninehearts Group of Companies Mr.  Thilak Godamanna passed away on Thursday following a brief illness.   
Godamanna, who was a well-known businessman with over 40  years of experience, had served as Honorary Secretary, Vice President  and Senior Vice President of the National Chamber of Commerce prior to  electing to the position of the Chamber President in 2015.   


He had also held the positions of Vice President of Sri  Lanka Bangladesh Business Co-operation Council and Sri Lanka China  Business Co-operation Council and several other Business Councils. He  was a member of the Trade and Tariff of the SME Cluster of the NCED and  member of the Exports Award committee of EDB.   
Godamanna had undergone professional training in  photography in Germany and Switzerland. He was an honorary fellow of The  National Photographic Art Society, Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Institute of  Photographers (NPASSL and SLIP.) He was the Producer of award-winning  Film ‘Bambaru Avith’ (1978 – Presidential Awards – best film plus 10  other awards) and ‘Para Dige’ (1980). He is an old boy of Dharmaraja  College, Kandy and Ananda College, Colombo.   


In appreciation of his service to the nation’s art and  culture he was awarded “Kalabhooshana Rajya Sammana” at a ceremony by  the Ministry of Cultural and Buddhist Religious affairs in 2021.   


His remains lie at 84, Layards Road, Colombo 05. Cortege  leaves residence on Sunday, October 15th at 3.30 pm and the cremation  will take place at General Cemetery Borella at 4.30 pm.
