The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered to keep Convener of Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige and Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera under remand custody until Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) obtains Attorney General’s advice.
Two student activists were detained under the PTA for 90 days under a Detention Orders issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Minister of Defence.
Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Mahawatta made this order pursuant to a request made by Terrorist Investigation Division.
On November 10, the Supreme Court had issued an interim order directing the the authorities to immediately produce Wasantha Mudalige before a Magistrate in terms of the law.
Supreme Court two-judge-bench comprising Justices Vijith Malalgoda and S. Thurairaja further decided to grant leave to proceed with the Fundamental Rights petition for violating fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 12(1), 13(1) and 13(2) of the constitution.
