Former Monaragala District MP Kumarasiri Ratnayaka had a close call on Sunday when a rather unexpected passenger—a wasp—caused him to lose control of his vehicle.

Driving along the Monaragala-Bibila Road, his journey took a sudden turn when the buzzing insect flew into the vehicle, distracting him mid-drive.

Trying to swat the wasp away fearing it would sting him, his attention shifted resulting in the vehicle veering off the road, hitting a mound of earth, and flipping over. Despite the accident, the former MP walked away without a scratch. His double cab, however, sustained significant damage.

The Police are looking into the accident, though it seems the wasp may be the only one to blame in this unexpected roadside drama.
