Wayside unprotected drain claims Spaniard’s life

 A Spanish tourist riding a motorcycle had fallen into a wayside storm water drain in Ahangama town and died. Police said the motorcycle had veered off the road and fallen into the unprotected drain near Ahangama post office on Galle- Matara road.   

 The police had rushed him to Kalugala district hospital in Habaraduwa only to be pronounced dead.   

Investigations revealed that the 30 year old tourist staying at a hotel in Ahangama town was on his way back to the hotel after attending a function in another hotel when he met with the accident.   

 In the absence of any indication of external injuries on the body, the police believe that he may have drowned in the storm water filled drain.   

 The postmortem examination was to be held yesterday afternoon.   

The Ahangama police are conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Nalaka Jayaweera. .
