Woman and her lover arrested over 6-year old girl’s death

• The hearing and speech-impaired girl was the daughter of the female suspect

The Hirana Police launched an investigation after the hearing and speech-impaired girl had died under suspicious circumstances. She was the daughter of the female suspect, police said.  

 Investigations revealed that the girl had been staying with her mother and her mother’s 29-year-old lover and the child was not provided with the necessary treatment although she had been ill for a few days.  It had been revealed that the mother’s   lover had often assaulted the child. Police said there were several swellings and bruise marks on the girl’s body.   Accordingly, the mother and her lover were arrested over the girl’s death and her body had been sent to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem after a Magisterial inquest was conducted.
