Woman who killed mother-in-law, kept her two kids hostage arrested

The police arrested a woman who allegedly killed her elderly mother-in-law and held her two kids hostage.

The police said the suspect was arrested after an operation during the wee hours of yesterday. The victim is identified as 78-year-old S. Jothi who is also a mother of five.

The suspect, hailing from Jaffna, had been living with her mother-in-law at the same house in Ulapane with her two daughters aged seven and four. Her husband had been away in Jaffna for work. According to the police, the victim had been ailing for one month. The police had received information that the suspect had threatened the victim for some time. The victim had been hacked to death.
