Work on expressways suspended, work possible only on BOT model

Construction of the expressways has been suspended and work can be resumed only if there are investments on BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) model, a Minister said.  

The government suspended the work on the Kurunegala-Kandy stretch of the central expressway and the Ratnapura expressway due to the financial crisis.  Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardane told Daily Mirror that the ministry could resume work only on the BOT model.  

Also, he said he intended to create a road development fund with money to be earned from taxation, to carry out maintenance work of the highways already built.
