A writ petition filed by retired Army Colonel seeking an order quashing the decision of the Election Commission to hold the Local Government elections was yesterday re-fixed for support on February 23 by Supreme Court.

This petition was called before the Supreme Court two-judge-bench comprising Justices S. Thurairaja and Shiran Goonaratne consequent to a motion filed by Colonel (Retd.) W.M.R. Wijesundera who sought an earlier court date to further support his application.

However, President’s Counsel Faisz Musthapha, appearing for the petitioner, informed the court that there is no necessity for supporting the motion since the casting of postal votes has been postponed indefinitely. President’s Counsel Saliya Pieris appeared for the Election Commission.  In his petition, Colonel Wijesundera had sought an order quashing the decision of the Election Commission to hold the Local Government elections to be held before March 10 as reported by media.
