Whilst highlighting that the UN has requested the government to halt the Yukthiya operation, Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles yesterday said he is not ready to work in accordance with the advice given by the international community.

“I am not ready to remain as a Minister in this government if I am to listen to the international community,” the Minister told media.

The Minister alleged that some lawyers who appear for the underworld leaders want himself and Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon bumped off. “Some lawyers who earn a living by appearing for underworld leaders in court cases have told their clients to finish me and IGP. They have done this as they will not be able to earn if the underworld is got rid of through the Yukthiya operation,” the Minister said.

“I was encouraged by the President to clean up the country through the Yukthiya operation,” he added.

Referring to the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, Mr. Alles said he had provided even details of the presidential commission report to the Archbishop of Colombo and the church as a whole. “Therefore, the cardinal and the church has details about the Easter Sunday attacks which even the police does not have. “I will not hesitate to take action against any VIP if it is found that such a personality is behind the Easter Sunday attacks,” he also said.
