A group of British tourists who visited a school in Bandarawela to make a donation of books and school requisites were surprised to find that parents, teachers and even several students were using expensive smart phones.  The principal had organized a ceremony to welcome the visit of donors. Addressing the ceremony the leader of the group said when they understood the economic constraints facing the Sri Lankan people and that they decided to donate books and school requisites to children of low income families in a remote area. He said the school was selected by the manager of the hotel.   


“We expected to donate school requisites to a school in a remote area attended by children from low income families. However, we were surprised to find that the parents and even several children were using expensive smart phones, costlier than the ones we use. ” He said.   


However, the group of tourists left after giving away the donation as scheduled.
